Deloitte puts the lunar economy at up to $566 billion by 2050—and SpaceX is speeding the timeline

The report, shared with Fortune ahead of its Wednesday release, says ripple effects could push the total above $1.1 trillion if water-ice rocket fuel and orbital data centers pan out.

The top 3

  1. SpaceX's Dominance in Lunar Transport: SpaceX, valued at $208 billion in August 2024 and projected to reach $800 billion by 2026, is a key player in lunar transport, contracted by NASA for Artemis missions to land astronauts using Starship and offering cargo flights to the lunar surface.
  2. Blue Origin's Expanding Lunar Lander Portfolio: Blue Origin is developing its Blue Moon family of lunar landers, including the Mark 1 for cargo (up to 3 metric tons) and the larger Mark 2 for crewed missions as part of NASA's Artemis program, with an uncrewed demonstration planned for 2027.
  3. Commercial Lunar Delivery Leaders: Intuitive Machines and Astrobotic: Intuitive Machines and Astrobotic are leading commercial lunar payload services (CLPS) providers for NASA, with Intuitive Machines' Nova-C landers (like Odysseus) having already soft-landed on the Moon, and Astrobotic planning multiple Peregrine and Griffin lander missions by 2028.
