Casgevy (exagamglogene autotemcel), developed by Vertex Pharmaceuticals and CRISPR Therapeutics, became the first FDA-approved CRISPR therapy, effectively treating severe sickle cell disease and transfusion-dependent beta-thalassemia by editing patients' stem cells outside the body to increase fetal hemoglobin.
