After Malt's success, Chen Zong-Wei independently pioneered limb replantation in China in 1963, while Drs. Harold Kleinert and Mort Kasdan performed the first revascularization of a partial digital amputation in 1963, followed by the first successful complete thumb replantation by Komatsu and Tamai in Japan in 1965.
