Madder, derived from the Rubia tinctorum root, has been a source of red and orange dyes for approximately 5,000 years and was cultivated and used in ancient civilizations like Egypt and Greece. Textiles dyed with madder were even found in the tomb of Pharaoh Tutankhamun.
