The history of PQC began with Richard Feynman's quantum computing ideas in the 1980s and Peter Shor's algorithm in 1994, followed by Daniel J. Bernstein coining 'Post-quantum cryptography' in 2003 and the first PQCrypto workshop in 2006. NIST launched its standardization process in 2016, culminating in the first PQC standards in August 2024.
