Some iPhone Duo screens are already failing

Apple's "precision-engineered" hinge is apparently damaging some iPhone Duo screens.

The top 3

  1. Mechanical failure mechanism: Analysis by iFixit suggests that the failure stems from a central support bar within the hinge that may fail to retract properly during the folding process. This mechanical obstruction creates a localized stress point, causing physical pressure on the OLED panel that manifests as dead pixel lines or permanent illumination defects.
  2. Evidence and scope of the defect: Reported issues include bright lines of dead or permanently illuminated pixels appearing near the hinge's midpoint, often occurring within the first day or even during initial setup. While Apple has acknowledged an issue affecting a 'small number' of units, the repair process is costly, with inner screen replacement reported to cost $999.
