The top 3
- Top 3 MCU Films/Series Officially Announced But Never Made: Among the high-profile MCU projects that were announced but ultimately scrapped are the 'Inhumans' movie (initially planned for Phase 3 before becoming a TV series), 'Gambit' starring Channing Tatum (canceled after Disney's acquisition of Fox), and 'Iron Man 4' (discussions with Robert Downey Jr. and Kevin Feige in 2014, but Tony Stark's story concluded in 'Endgame').
- Longest Development Periods for Major Marvel Cinematic Adaptations: The 'Deadpool' film spent over 10 years in development hell, with Ryan Reynolds actively pushing for it since 2004, until test footage leaked online in 2014, leading to its eventual 2016 release. The 'Black Widow' solo film also had a protracted development, being discussed for over a decade before its 2021 release.
- High-Profile Creative Exits That Impacted Marvel Productions: Edgar Wright famously departed 'Ant-Man' in 2014 due to creative differences after eight years of development, with Marvel wanting to integrate the film more into the wider MCU narrative. Patty Jenkins also left 'Thor: The Dark World' in 2011 over creative differences, having envisioned a 'Romeo and Juliet'-style story for Thor and Jane Foster.
